1. Start with the Right Board
As a beginner, bigger is better. A soft-top longboard gives you stability and makes catching waves much easier.
2. Master Your Pop-Up on Land First
Practice your pop-up hundreds of times on the beach. This muscle memory will serve you well in the waves.
3. Learn to Read the Ocean
Spend time watching the waves before you paddle out. Notice where they're breaking and identify any currents.
4. Stay Safe
Never surf alone as a beginner. Learn about rip currents and always check conditions before entering the water.
5. Be Patient and Persistent
Surfing is challenging – everyone struggles at first. Celebrate small victories.
